An extremely unlucky motorist has been caught speeding in the final 20 metres of the 40kph zone on Watsonia Road. Driving in a northerly direction towards Grimshaw Street, the man was clocked at 47kph in the 20-metre stretch between the last 40 sign and the sign indicating the end of the 40 zone.

While local residents have long wondered why those two signs are so close together, it seems it is for motorists like Graeme Wilson who pay little attention to road signage. While Wilson was clearly angry about the fine when contacted by The Watsonia Bugle, he can hardly argue that there wasn’t adequate signage in the area where he was caught breaking the law.

This year’s introduction of the new speed limit along the retail precinct of Watsonia Road has caught many motorists unaware, after having years of safely travelling at 50kph in the area. When coupled with that oddly placed pedestrian crossing right next to the roundabout, it’s been a challenging year for local motorists.
