A local parent spent yesterday wandering around the Melbourne Zoo basically just taking photos of her 3-year-old son on the many animal statues scattered around the venue. While there were a number of live animals on display at the zoo, Watsonia mum Dani Watson said that her son mainly just wanted to climb on the statues and ask for photos.
Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, Dani said, “Sometimes I don’t know why I bother. We traipse all the way into the zoo and he just runs around jumping on statues and then wants to go on the carousel and play on the playground. We could’ve done most of those things in Watsy. You queue up for a photo on those well-worn elephant statues longer than you queue up to look at the actual real life elephants. Kids are so stupid.”
So damaged by yesterday’s experience, Dani claims that an animal statue park at Binnak Park could be a viable alternative to the failed art park proposal. She said, “Just chuck a whole heap of animal statues around the park, charge people for the privilege of entering, and hey presto, you’ve got an attraction that pays for itself.”
