A regular visitor to the Dairy Bell store on Grimshaw Street has been left dismayed and upset after buying a choc top at a local cinema and being gravely disappointed at the size of the treat. More accustomed to the much larger Dairy Bell version, Ben Hughes spent most of his subsequent visit to the movies just shaking his head at the much smaller cinema version of everyone’s favourite chocolate-dipped ice cream.
Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle about his ordeal, Hughes said, “It was a bloody joke mate. I just couldn’t believe it. My first thought was ‘Where’s the rest of it?’ I mean, I’m used to the Dairy Bell choc tops that are the size of a large man’s fist, but them movie ones are much more of a fun size version. To be honest, it ruined date night, and I couldn’t focus on the movie.”
While Hughes stopped short of saying he would be writing a letter of complaint to the cinema in question, he did say the incident may affect his choice of cinema in the future. He said, “The quality of the choc top is a key element of the movie-going experience. So if that’s not up to scratch, it can ruin the whole night. From now on, I might have to drive to Dairy Bell, buy the choc tops, and then drive quickly to the cinema. Some would call that a ‘life hack’. But I reckon that’s just common sense. It’ll work alright in winter, but summer could be a bit of a challenge!”
