A recent survey has revealed that the vast majority of local residents born between 1975 and 1982 own the Triple J Hottest 100 CD from the year 1997. The survey covered over a thousand residents living in the Diamond Valley within that age group, and discovered that a staggering 97.5% of them had the CD somewhere in their possession, either in a box in their garage or still stacked in one of those CD racks in their childhood bedroom at their parent’s house.

The compilation CD features such legendary local acts such as Grinspoon, Silverchair, The Living End, The Whitlams, Jebediah, Nick Cave and Spiderbait, while the big-name international acts include Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Marilyn Manson, and Green Day. In fact, some industry insiders say that the 1997 iteration is the clear zenith of the popular compilation series.

According to local music aficionado, and former Triple J fan, Pete Donaldson, it was all downhill for the countdown after 1997. He said, “They still had some good years in the late 90s and early 00s, but 1997 was its undisputed peak. Just look at the track listing, man. Banger after banger after banger. Back when Triple J used to be awesome, and not just play a bunch of Aussie hip hop wannabes.”
