An inner north restaurant has made a failed attempt to add class to its ratty bathroom by adding some sad looking flowers and a secondhand diffuser. The additions may well be living proof of the expression that you can’t polish a turd.
Many suburban, and in fact inner-city, restaurants are renowned for ratty bathrooms with chipped tiles, rough paint jobs, and over flowing paper towel bins. While the attempts to improve the ambience of the smallest room in the restaurant are somewhat admirable, last night’s diners seemed unimpressed by the token effort.
Rick Clarkson of Rosanna said, “It was laughable. When you already have to walk half through the kitchen and then climb over a cluster of mops and buckets you’re not expecting the Ritz in there. So why bother? If anything, the colour and life of the flowers highlights how disgusting the rest of the room is!”
