A local father is reportedly facing a race against time to have the family billy cart ready for this afternoon’s annual Billy Cart Race in Greensborough. Despite having spent most of the last week, and essentially all of last night, working on the cart, Dave Finlayson is still desperately tinkering with the vehicle that his son Lachie is hoping to steer to victory this afternoon.

Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle early this morning, Finlayson’s wife Lisa said, “I’ve never seen him this stressed. He came to bed last night at about 4.30am and was then back up and in the garage before 7.00am working on it. He took, like, three sickies this week to work on the cart, so he’s either going to produce the best billy cart of all time, or he’s been procrastinating as usual.”

Seemingly stung by Team Finlayson’s failure at last year’s Billy Cart Race, Dave has spent most of the last 12 months planning and scheming for revenge this afternoon. Lisa said, “They say it’s healthy to have a hobby, but Dave’s kind of turned it into an obsession. It’s not healthy. If they fail this arvo, I’m not sure that he’ll be able to recover from the defeat.”
