A local man has opted for the classic looking-into-the-distance profile pic on Facebook to suggest that he’s a contemplative type. Dan Jones made the somewhat controversial choice late last week and is expected to stick with it for at least a few months, after telling The Watsonia Bugle that he thinks the image adds a certain depth to his character that is undeniable now that it’s been immortalised on social media.

In a wide-ranging interview, Jones said, “Yeah mate, I’m single and I’m trying to change that, so if chicks see me looking off into the distance at some exotic location they’ll automatically assume that I’m a real thinker, and that I’m, like, cultured and that. That lookout where the pic was taken was pretty cool, but truth is the whole shot was staged. I got my mate to take, like, 10 different versions of the pic. We were both so hungover and just wanted to get back to our hostel to sleep, but people won’t know that by looking at the photo.”

Jones also felt that the location of the image added a whole extra layer to the depth of his character that he was trying to create with the shot. He said, “To be honest, I don’t even remember the name of that place. It was somewhere in South America. You know, one of those real cool off the trail type places that fully impresses people when you tell them you’ve been there. Truth is I was so munted half the time I don’t remember much of it.”
