A Watsonia father has been forced to deeply analyse the true difference between good and evil thanks to incessant questioning from his 4-year-old son who seems to have a very black and white approach to the subject. Greg Wallace has been fielding many questions from his son Lachie about whether various people are good guys or bad guys, with examples ranging from Shrek to the PSOs at the local train station.

Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle about the situation, Wallace said, “Lachie just wants a real cut and dried view of what can often be very complex personalities. With most characters, be they real or represented in fiction, there can be a lot of light and shade in how they behave in their everyday lives. The one that really stumped me was Darth Vader. Lachie wanted to know if he was a good guy or a bad guy.”

Presented with the Darth Vader question, Wallace really struggled to produce a definitive answer. He said, “Ultimately, Darth is a classic bad guy. I mean some of the things he did over the years were quite terrible. But then, at the very end, he saved his son from certain death at the hands of the Emperor. But try explaining that to a 4-year-old who either wants to crusade against the baddies, or be besties with the good guys. It’s very complex.”
