After watching the acclaimed Fyre documentary on Netflix earlier this week, a local man has allegedly abandoned plans to stage a large music festival in Watsonia’s very own Gresswell Forest. Benny McLaughlin had previously been working behind the scenes to launch “Gresstock”, a large-scale music festival in the hidden alcove of Gresswell Forest, and was planning on flying a whole bunch of Instagram influencers to the bush setting to film an elaborate promo video for the planned festival.

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened tells the dramatic story of the failed Fyre Festival, a rollicking tale of ambition, greed and short-sightedness. After watching the film, McLaughlin has ceased all endeavours to launch his ambitious idea, telling friends that despite its obvious potential, maybe Gresstock was never meant to be. A source close to him said, “He’s pretty flat at the moment. I mean, I think he thought this Gresstock thing was really going to take off. But I think he underestimated exactly what is involved in putting on such a big show.”

The source also claimed that McLaughlin was now under dire financial distress, having already committed significant funds towards his dream festival. They said, “He’d already pumped a fair bit of cash into this one, so I’m not sure how he’s going to recover that. It’s kind of lucky that he watched the Fyre doco when he did, but also a bit sad that he didn’t have the foresight to predict the difficulties of holding a music festival in a densely forested area.”
