Australian cricket fans have resumed their strongly-held belief that One Day International cricket is a dying format of the game, and that Twenty20 cricket is the way of the future. The rapid about-face seemed to be confirmed this morning, following a relatively short-lived groundswell of support for the beleaguered format of the game.
Exactly what prompted the change of heart remains unclear, as it is the middle of winter here in Australia, so most sports fans are focusing their attention on one or more football codes. Local cricket aficionado Nicholas Frame told The Watsonia Bugle, “Yeah mate, ODI cricket has been on the nose for ages. It’s dead, mate. Nobody cares about it. The main focus is on Test Cricket and Twenty20. It’s time the ICC just pulled the pin on this whole ODI thing. Was good while it lasted, but it’s run its course.”
