Local residents are expecting big things from the $620,000 North East Link “Hub” revamp, after news quietly circulated last month about the seemingly over-the-top renovation. While specific details around the costly makeover remain unknown, locals have begun to speculate over exactly what will feature in the new space on Watsonia Road.

One such local, Nick Rolands, said, “$620k? Jeepers. This is gunna be good. I’m guessing there’ll be gold-plated door handles, a cinnamon donut machine, and an elaborate water feature. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I hope it ends up looking like the old Smorgy’s on Plenty Road. That was a luxurious fit out. If they can install an erupting volcano that goes off on the hour that would be sick.”

However, not all locals were as optimistic as Rolands. Long-time Watsonia resident Doris Nelson said, “Oh, that’s an awful lot of money. What I could do with $620,000. Deary me. You could buy an entire house with that kind of money, so I can’t wait to see what they end up with down there.”
