In a proclamation that’s sure to send ripples through the local community, a group of Watsonians have claimed that Greensborough’s Safeway supermarket is “pretty much Watsonia’s”. While geographically inaccurate, the claim seems to be gathering momentum, with multiple Watsonia residents throwing their support behind the assertion.
One such resident, Fiona Linsden, has told The Watsonia Bugle, “Yeah, in my heart I’ve always seen that place as Watsonia’s very own. It’s our closest big supermarket, and you can get there without crossing the major arterial of Henry Street or The Circuit. And that’s a big deal. I reckon they should just dispense with the pleasantries and call it ‘Watsonia Safeway’. The time is right.”
On the other side of the argument, prominent Greensborough resident Tammy O’Brien said, “What a load of rubbish. That’s so typical of Watsonia. Youse go on and on about your so-called ‘intimate Main Street feel’ but then you want to sink your claws into one of the cornerstones of our thriving CBD. You can’t have it all, mate.”
