The unfortunate impending closure of Watsonia’s newsagent has rekindled hope amongst the suburb’s resident drunks who continue to lust after a local wine bar. Despite most of Watsonia just attempting to process the sad end of our beloved newsagent, a small portion of enthusiastic binge drinkers have used the opportunity to push for a new venue to meet, drink, and be merry.
One of the Bugle’s longest running narratives, the desire for a wine bar in our local area doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. With various community social media pages lighting up this week with renewed calls for a classy drinking venue, we took to Watsonia Road last night to ask the locals what they think. According to local wino Dean Solakidis, the time is right to add a touch of sophistication and class to the Watsonia CBD.
Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle whilst milling around outside Noodle Station, Solakidis said, “It’s now or never, I reckon. Momentum has been building around this concept for a couple of years. If we’re ever going to challenge Monty’s famous Were Street vibe, we need to add a late-night drinking venue. You know, one that doesn’t have pokies. A wine bar would be fully sick, and I even know a bloke who’s pretty handy on the guitar, so he’d provide the tunes. I want this to happen, and 2020 is the year!”
