A local man has controversially claimed that residents from nearby suburbs should be banned from visiting Watsonia over Easter. Dale Francis has told The Watsonia Bugle that we should be following the lead of other popular tourist destinations across Victoria by banning people from Greensborough, Eltham, Montmorency and Macleod from attending the Watsonia CBD over fears of cross-contamination.
Many rural hot spots have already taken this bold stance, actively discouraging people from visiting their region over the long weekend, and Francis believes they are on the money. He said, “Mate, who knows what we could contract from those other suburbs. Watsy is pure, and we need to keep it that way. We can’t have the usual thousands of tourists flooding into our main street at Easter. It might sound harsh, but we need to protect ourselves.”
The comments from Francis are sure to prove unpopular in the Diamond Valley, with many people in the area already struggling to come to terms with the social distancing measures introduced to combat COVID-19. Do you think he has a point, or needs to relax a little?
