A local man says he’s striving for Instagram fame via his bold “A beanie a day” concept, telling friends he will attempt to post a photo of himself wearing a different beanie for every day in a full calendar year. Watsonia’s very own Kelvin O’Donnell revealed his ambitious project to friends last night over a few “Zoom wines”, saying the idea had kept him busy during Melbourne’s fifth lockdown.

Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle about his project, O’Donnell said, “Well, the concept itself is quite simple. Just post one photo a day of me wearing a different beanie. The challenging part will be getting access to 365 beanies without me going bankrupt. I currently have about 20 beanies at home, so I’m secretly hoping that once I garner a bit of a following brands will start sending me freebies to leverage my enormous following. You know, like all those influencers out there.”

If this concept sounds familiar, it’s because O’Donnell has stolen it directly from the existing Instagram account “A Bikini A Day”, which was most likely stolen from another idea with a similar vibe. But O’Donnell is quite open about this “borrowing of ideas”. He said, “Oh yeah, for sure, it’s a straight rip. But you know what they say, there’s no such thing as a truly original idea, so I figure it’s fair game.”

When asked whether his market research had identified the exact percentage of the bikini account’s following that was just blokes hoping for a daily perve, O’Donnell suggested he wasn’t afraid of becoming a sex symbol of his own. He said, “Well, sex sells. And I can’t see why I can’t exploit that fact. I’m a decent looking bloke, and arguably better looking in a beanie than without, so this is my real sweet spot. I’m not afraid to use my good looks to get ahead in the world.”
