A well-meaning work of tree art in Watsonia North is actually quite terrifying at night, as discovered by a local dog walker this week. Kane Bannister said that while he didn’t mind the smiley face when he drove past it during the day, the character took on a whole new persona under the cover of darkness.
Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle about his unsettling discovery, Bannister said, “Fair dinkum, I almost shit meself when I walked past that tree last night. I was just lost in me own thoughts, and hustling to get home before the 9pm curfew when… BANG! I looked up and saw what I thought was the poltergeist himself!”
Left to ponder the balance between lifting spirits during daylight hours and haunting people at night, Bannister said, “Lifting spirits? That thing is a spirit in itself. A bloody evil spirit! It’s gotta go. I’ll be having nightmares about it for weeks!”
