A local Big Truck claims he is reconsidering his regular sausage order in the wake of news about the price hike for the humble Bunnings snag in bread. With prices predicted to rise from $2.50 to $3.50 per sausage later this month, Trent Nelson says he might have to reduce the quantity of his usual order of four snags per trip to the hardware retailer.
Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, Nelson said, “My usual order is four snags for the neat total of 10 bucks. That’s a good deal for a decent feed. But that same order will cost me 14 bucks under the new regime! That’s a big increase. Almost 50%. Talk about cost-of-living pressures, this is too much.”
However, local nutritionist Karly Leonard suggested that reducing his casual sausage consumption might not be such a bad thing for Nelson. Speaking from her clinic in Watsonia, Leonard said, “It’s a bit like taxing alcohol and cigarettes to deter people from consuming too much. Let’s be honest, in most cases people don’t count their Bunnings snags as part of their daily meal plan. So, this guy was probably knocking down four snags in bread, most likely with onion, and treating that as just a snack. I don’t think it would hurt him to cut down a little.”
