A Greensborough man’s previously fail safe method for sleeping in hot weather has been sorely tested by the current heatwave. The consecutive hot nights in Melbourne has almost made Ken Graham’s method of drinking seven to eight stubbies before going to bed an unsustainable practice.

Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle early this morning, Graham said, “Yeah mate, it’s never really failed me until now, but after all these nights in a row I’m waking up with the mega dries and a bloody sore head. Then by about two in the arvo at work I start getting the withdrawal shakes. And we haven’t even really hit the February heatwaves yet. It’s a nightmare.”

Whilst Graham acknowledged the accelerated dehydration of consuming excessive alcohol in warm conditions, he insisted that tipping a few stubbies in was the only way to get a good night’s sleep. He said, “I’ve tried going to bed sober, but I just really struggle to get to sleep. Tossing and turning all night mate. So I’m at the crossroads right now, I either commit fully to the can, or start researching some other options.”
