A local family has been forced to start treating avocados with the respect they probably always deserved due to the inflated prices of the beloved fruit. Amidst reports of a potential avocado shortage across our fair nation, resulting in higher prices, many Australian families are now in the same boat as the Wilson family from Watsonia.

While the Wilsons have previously used avocado willy nilly in almost every meal they eat, they have now entered a strict era of avocado rationing, only using the fruit in essential dishes such as guacamole and smashed avocado. Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, family matriarch Hailey has shared the family’s struggle, telling us, “The kids aren’t happy to be honest. They’ve lived the dream for too long, and they’re not taking the new regime very well.”

Despite refusing to give us a ceiling on the price she is willing to pay for an avo, Hailey said, “We’re not paying four to five bucks for one, that’s for sure. My grandparents were depression-era children, but kids these days have no frame of reference for these difficult measures. In the long run it will be good for them.”
