An Eltham singer-songwriter is reportedly unhappy with the front page headline of this week’s edition of the Diamond Valley Leader. Christina Hamilton, often referred to in the local area as Eltham‘s version of American musician Jewel, has hit out at the local newspaper in a lengthy enewsletter to her fans.
Hamilton sent the message to her friends late last night after spending most of Thursday fielding calls from family and friends about the use of the term “Eltham’s jewel” to describe a proposed redevelopment of Eltham’s shopping precinct. In an exclusive interview with The Watsonia Bugle, Hamilton said, “I just couldn’t believe it when I first saw it. I’m well known around the local area as ‘Eltham’s Jewel’ due to my uncanny physical resemblance to the magical musician Jewel. I always include at least a couple of her songs in my sets when I’m playing covers, and the crowds love it.”
Eltham’s Jewel then took direct aim at the local newspaper, telling us, “These hands are small I know, but these foolish games being played by the DV Leader have made me so mad. That name was meant for me. I’m not gunna just stand still while this is going on.”
