A self-professed music aficionado living in Greensborough is reportedly still getting around the thriving Greensborough house party scene referring to Kings of Leon as “new stuff”. Despite the peak of the American band’s fame being almost a decade ago, Rick Simpson seems to be caught in a musical vacuum, failing to sample any music made in the last seven years.

Simpson’s friends have recently called him on these discrepancies, after listening to him sprout knowledge about bands for the last 20 years. Close friend Brendan Collins said, “Mate, he goes on and on about the music industry, but just keeps going back to same old bands. On the weekend he actually said that ‘Use Somebody’ was a good example of modern rock. I almost fell over. That song was released 10 years ago. Simmo’s in a bloody time capsule mate.”

When contacted by The Watsonia Bugle, Simpson refused to put any comments on the record, instead making a couple of vague references about “Group of Youths” and delivering a rambling diatribe about how they don’t make music like they used to. He then offered to send us a screenshot of his top 10 for the recent Triple J Hottest 100 countdown, but we politely declined.
