A local mathematician has openly questioned the timing of International Pie Day which is due to be held this Wednesday 14 March. Grant Reynolds claims the current date of observance just serves American interests, where they refer to the date as “3/14”, which is equivalent value of Pi, creating a clever play on both words and numbers.

Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, Reynolds said, “Who do they think they are putting it on the 14th of March? At best it’s just another rotten example of the Americanisation of the world, and at worst it’s culturally insensitive. It should actually be on the 22nd of July, because 22 divided by 7 equals the value of Pi.”

When questioned about whether this was really an issue worth going into battle for, Reynolds said, “Are you serious? It’s the little things that count the most. You start letting these things through the gate and next thing you know Donald Trump is the President of the World. They, whoever ‘they’ may be, need to make the change before it’s too late.”
