After trying and failing on a number of highly sought after lists, Watsonia has finally topped a suburb list. This is obviously great news, and cause for much celebration, even though we’re still not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

On a list released yesterday, Watsonia is officially the top suburb for sales by auction. Sitting pretty at the head of the list with 68.9% of sales, Watsy has held off such suburban heavyweights as Tullamarine (64.5%), Mill Park (62.8%) and Gladstone Park (57%).

While previous coverage of our wonderful suburb by Domain has been quizzical at best, locals are yet to challenge the lofty placing despite widespread confusion over exactly what it means. One such local said, “Um, I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I reckon we should claim it. Take what you can get I say.”

While jealous neighbouring suburbs are expected to challenge the result, Watsonia residents are already planning how to celebrate the achievement. One local business owner said, “I reckon a parade down the Main Street would be quite fitting. After that carnival got washed out earlier in the year, we due for another large scale event on Watsonia Road. And this is the perfect excuse for it!”
