On the very first day of the new season, at least one local cricketer has already gone back on his bold promise to bring better offerings for afternoon tea at home games this season. At end of season drinks back in March this year, regular BBQ Shape bringer Dean Williams told all within ear shot that he would pull his finger out this season and maybe even start making trays of sandwiches on Saturday mornings.
However, despite his best intentions, Williams woke this morning and quickly conceded defeat, deciding to swing past Coles on the way to today’s game and grab a box of BBQ Shapes instead. Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle just a short time ago, Williams said, “Yeah mate, I know I promised on Silly Sunday at the end of last season, and I even Googled a few sandwich recipes a couple of months ago, but truth is I just don’t love my teammates that much. It would add a good 20 to 30 minutes onto my already crowded match day preparations.”
While Williams refused to elaborate on the specifics of his presumably methodical pre-game routine, he did admit that at least half an hour of it involves frantically searching the house for his whites, and occasionally attempting to manage any hangovers that may have sprung up from festivities the night before. He said, “Look, I don’t want to go into great detail, but let’s just say I’m pretty busy on the morning before a game. The boys are lucky to even get a box of Shapes to be honest. I mean, I’m just about the best player on the team, so why should I do all the heavy lifting on AND off the field?”
