A local renegade is reportedly considering changing his current email address in the wake of the allegations being levelled at Michael Jackson by the Leaving Neverland documentary. As organisations all over the world move to distance themselves from Jackson due to claims of inappropriate behaviour with children, Watsonia man Darren Hamilton believes it might be time to change his long-held email address from firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hamilton’s conundrum follows a contentious couple of weeks for Michael Jackson’s legacy, as radio stations and museums across the globe have cut down on their King of Pop content, and online discussion about the allegations raised in the doco continue to snowball. According to Hamilton, he just doesn’t want that kind of heat being applied to his own personal brand and online presence.
Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, Hamilton said, “At first I stood strong, because that email address has been with me for almost two full decades now. But I’m just not sure I want to be associated with all this mess. Maybe it will just be easier for me to change my email address and move on.”
However, Hamilton also claimed that the inspiration behind his catchy email handle wasn’t entirely related to MJ. He said, “To be honest, I hadn’t even heard of that song until Alien Ant Farm did that awesome cover back in 2001. Man, I loved that song so much. I still do, actually. So, they were actually the true inspiration behind my email address. But that will just get lost in the witch hunt won’t it? People won’t really care about that.”
