Less than two weeks into a five-week national election campaign, at least one local woman says she’s sick of seeing images of politicians eating food. Watsonia woman Carol Sampson says she doesn’t understand the Australian media’s fascination with taking photographs of politicians eating.
Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle about her grievance, Sampson said, “Enough’s enough. I can’t take it anymore. I know it shows them at their most vulnerable, but why do we need to see a bunch of incredible awkward people perform the equally awkward act of eating food in public?”
Alternatively, one Eltham man insists that the monitoring of politicians while they eat has provided some fascinating character insights. Brandon Hamilton said, “Carefully managed press calls and policy announcement only tell us so much. Remember the image of Malcolm Turnbull eating a meat pie with a knife and fork? In hindsight, that told us everything we ever needed to know about Millionaire Malcolm. And Tony Abbott eating that onion? We can’t say the warning signs about Abbott being batshit crazy weren’t exactly obvious to us.”
