A local AFL fan is currently brushing up on his Rugby League knowledge in the immediate lead-up to the first State of Origin game of the year. Callum Fleming, a self-described “sports nut”, tends to only ever get interested in league when the State of Origin is on, or when the Melbourne Storm make the Grand Final at the end of the NRL season.

Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle from his inner-city office this afternoon, Fleming said, “Yeah mate, State of Origin is one of the biggest sporting spectacle on the calendar! I bloody love it, you know. Those blokes really get into it don’t they? It’s awesome.”

However, despite what Fleming described as a “full afternoon of research”, he still seemed to be a bit short on the rules and the general state of play. He said, “So, it’s five tackles and then they have to kick it, yeah? How many points for a touchdown?”
