Supporters of the Diamond Valley Stadium are reportedly upset that the multi-sports arena has again missed out on being named the “Global Venue of the Year”. As reported in The Watsonia Bugle earlier this week, the annual award has instead been given to Marvel Stadium in the Docklands, a decision that seems to have further angered fans of the Diamond Valley’s premium sports stadium.

One such devotee of the Diamond Valley Stadium, Mark Davidson, claims the venue deserves worldwide recognition, especially contacting The Watsonia Bugle to outline the many positive attributes. Davidson said, “Mate, you can play just about anything there. It truly is a multi-sports venue. There’s basketball, table tennis, badminton, squash, netball, volleyball and dodgeball. Sometimes the sports even combine at once. For example, I once saw a fight happen simultaneously with a basketball match. Amazing.”

Davidson claims that our report on Marvel Stadium’s big win was what sparked his interest in the concept of being a “Global Venue of the Year”. He said, “Yeah man, I read that article you guys wrote about Marvel. When you said it’s not even the best stadium in Melbourne, let alone the world, I straight away thought of Diamond Valley. I didn’t even realise that youse meant the MCG was better. I thought you were gonna sing the praises of the DV, mate.”

Davidson also referred to the night when Ben Simmons chose the Diamond Valley Stadium to announce his return to fitness and intention to become the NBA’s Rookie of the Year. Davidson said, “When an international mega star graces your courts, you know you’re onto a winner. The DV Stadium is mint.”
