A local dad has implemented a strict “no phones at the dinner table” policy for his teenage children in a bold attempt to improve verbal communication amongst family members at dinner time. Peter Nelson first announced the new policy last week, and has already noticed positive improvements in the nightly interactions around the dinner table.
Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, Nelson said, “Social media? More like anti-social media. Haha. To be honest, I’d probably let it go on for too long in the past, but when I found out that my daughter had texted my son during dinner to tell him to stop chewing so loudly, I knew I had to act.”
Nelson claimed that his daughter’s use of an inflammatory gif alongside the eating technique request only strengthened his resolve to ban phones from the dinner table. He said, “She used this gif thingo that was basically a pig just rifling through a trough. It was too much. I mean, Benny eats pretty loudly at the best of times, but at least tell him to his face rather than bloody texting him!”
