At least one local man is controversially considering a permanent move to the couch for the entire Ashes series that commenced tonight. Passionate cricket fan Matt Sunderland says that while the recent World Cup was solid preparation for the Ashes series, it might be time to ramp things up a bit.

Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, Sunderland said, “Yeah mate, I’m ready for this, I really am. But, if I’m really going to embrace this series, I think it’s time to permanently move to the couch. You know, really make myself comfortable. Bring my bedside table out, alarm clock, reading light, everything. Couch technology has improved a lot over the years, and this one is almost a bed anyway, so I might as well use it to its full capacity.”

Exactly how this would impact Sunderland’s relationship – in the short-term – with his wife remains unclear, but he suggested that sacrifices have to be made along the way if you’re going to be a true fan of the Australian cricket team. He said, “Do you think Cam White became the exquisite slips fielder he is just by sitting around and going with the flow? No. He did it by making sacrifices and training hard. A willingness to make the hard calls is what helps to elevate a person to the next level.”
