A local renegade has allegedly used her phone to pay for takeaway dinner at Greensy Maccas drive thru. The bold move came just days after a social media storm surprised many Victorians by indicating that paying with your phone in a drive thru is actually illegal, unless you completely stop your car and put the handbrake on.
In an attempt to gain some social media traction, and possibly to be as funny and entertaining as their Queensland counterparts, Victoria Police posted a Facebook poll last Friday asking followers if they thought it was okay to pay with their mobile phone when in a drive thru scenario. While 65% of respondents said they thought it was okay, the police later burst that bubble by informing the world that such behaviour was illegal. In fact, the punishment for committing such a crime would be a $484 fine and the loss of four demerit points.
Despite being aware of this nifty little awareness campaign, one local renegade – who naturally requested strict anonymity – threw caution to the wind last night at the McDonald’s drive thru in Greensborough, coolly paying for her large Quarter Pounder meal with her phone while the engine of her car idled. Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle after the incident to explain her actions, the self-styled Nefarious Nelly said, “Rules are meant to be broken, mate. You know what they say: live by the sword and die by the sword. That’s me lifetime philosophy. It means no worries, for the rest of me days.”
