Melbourne Airport is reportedly planning to expand its departure gates area to improve Instagram flexing options, following news earlier this week that the well-known departure gate is now officially Victoria’s most Instagrammed location. While airport management remains tight-lipped about the proposed renovations, an inside source claims the new gate will include interchangeable backdrops, complimentary tripod hire, and improved lighting.

Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, the anonymous source said, “It’s almost part of customs process now, you have to pose for at least one photo before going through those automatic doors, so the bosses here figured they might as well make that experience all the more enjoyable in the future, and make Melbourne a true destination of choice, for locals and visitors alike.”

Exactly when the revamped area will be ready for use remains unknown, but local travellers sure are excited about the news. Self-described wanderlust and thrill-seeker Bec Linden said, “The departure gate selfie is a key part of any trip OS. Especially when you add a quirky caption like ‘See you soon Melbs, I’ll try not to miss you too much.’ And for someone who travels as much as I do, a bit of variety with the backdrops would be quite welcome. I can’t wait to see what they come up with.”
