The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is reportedly considering a radical name change following a recent influx of former AFL players into the competition. A source that claims to be close to the competition has said that the association will soon be known as the AFL Retirement Fund League (ARFL).

The source, who requested strict anonymity, said, “It’s a big change, I mean this comp’s been around for over 100 years, but I think it would align more closely to some of the big changes that have been happening in the last year or so. It also avoids that tricky use of the word ‘amateur’ which seems to be triggering quite a few people these days.”

While no official word has been given on if or when the change will actually take place, the inside source is convinced it will be in place before the beginning of the 2020 season. They said, “It has to be. I mean, the top level of the VAFA will pretty much be an AFL past players reunion every weekend, so the sooner the better.”
