A local Essendon fan has admitted that he went a bit early on the text messages last night, excited by the half time score in the his team’s opening round clash against Hawthorn. Buoyed by his team kicking eight goals to Hawthorn’s one in the second quarter, Martin Fraser used the 39-point half time lead as an opportunity to connect with some friends and colleagues.

Reflecting this morning on his short-lived taste for fellowship and bonhomie, Fraser said, “Yeah, look, on reflection I probably went a bit early on the messages last night. But I’d already conceded that 2021 was gunna be a rough year for the Bombers, so when we kicked away in the second I got a bit excited.”

Admitting that he’d messaged “at least four or five Hawthorn supporters” at the long break, Fraser said he’d spent most of today fielding replies to last night’s premature comments. He said, “Karma’s a bitch, that’s for sure. And I’ve copped it today. Oh well, there’s always next week.”
