A local ideas man has called for the merged return of two former iconic historical Greensborough landmarks: the big blue water tower that used to reside at the top end of Plenty River Drive, and the weird space ship thingy that sat just around the corner. Arthur Himmelberg claims the amalgamated reinstatement of the two structures would offer unrivalled views of Melbourne and become a money-spinning tourist attraction for the Diamond Valley region. He intends to turn the amalgamated structure into a revolving restaurant.
Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle, Himmelberg said, “Back in the day, those two buildings were real landmarks for the local area, and I’ve missed them every year since they’ve been gone. People always go on about the Eltham Barrel, the windmill house, and the Horseland horse, but that blue bubble and the yellow spaceship were more iconic in my opinion. If they combine the two, it would be a truly marvellous combination.”
Himmelberg said, “The view from up there would be unrivalled in Melbourne. You’ve got the city skyline to the south, the Dandenongs to the east, Mount Sugarloaf to the north, and beautiful sunsets over to the west. If you could make the spaceship rotate up the top there, people would travel from all over the world to have a meal here in the Diamond Valley.”
