A local dweeb, and passionate Star Wars fan, has reminisced about that wild time he and his friends listed ‘Jedi’ as their religion on the national Census. Callum Quinlan said the reflection had him yearning for a simpler time, when lodging a bogus religion on the Census form was arguably the most rebellious act a young man could perform in society.
Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle about his memories, Quinlan said, “Whoa, that was revolutionary at the time. People were outraged. It was big news. But these days, how would it push COVID, climate change, our inept politicians, and any other myriad of modern issues off the front page. Hell, that ‘front page’ analogy doesn’t even make sense these days, because nobody buys the newspaper. Haha.”
Quinlan claimed the nostalgic thoughts he had today were an unwelcome reminder of the passage of time. He said, “Did you know that whole movement to legitimise the Jedi faith started 20 years ago? Far out, I still consider that a cutting-edge social movement. But there are literally living and breathing adults walking around today that weren’t even alive when this thing started. I’m getting old, man.”
