A local grandmother claims to have been blindsided by the ongoing surge in popularity for “those Tic Tocs”, after over-hearing a conversation between school kids at Greensborough Plaza yesterday afternoon. Doris McKenzie says she was genuinely shocked by the resurgence of the sugar-sweet biscuits, having last stocked them in her cookie jar almost 20 years ago.
Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle about the unexpected food trend, McKenzie said, “I just couldn’t believe it. My grandkids started turning their back on Tic Tocs years ago, but all these younguns could talk about was how much they love them. They kept saying they couldn’t wait to get home and make them, which was odd. Why would you make your own when Arnott’s have the recipe so good? They also said they wanted to send them to their friends. It was all very strange.”
While we tried to suggest that maybe the children were actually talking about the increasingly popular video-sharing social networking service TikTok, McKenzie was having none of it. She said, “Oh fiddlestix. My hearing’s not that bad, they were definitely talking about Tic Tocs. And who can blame them, those biscuits are delicious. Lovely with a nice cup of tea.”
