A local man is oddly relying on a Facebook community group for regular reminders that, from time-to-time, some people do bad stuff to other people. Rather than just relying on his own common sense and hard-earned street smarts, Neil Ploenges claims that he just reads the fear-mongering posts on his local community page to remind him that it might be a good idea to lock the front door of his house at night, and not leave any valuables in unattended cars.

Speaking exclusively to The Watsonia Bugle about his peculiar strategy, Ploenges said, “I honestly think that’s the best way for me to stay safe. Without those regular reminders, I’d be way too haphazard, and would really open myself up to the nefarious activity of others.”

While Ploenges refused to weigh into the ongoing debate about whether instances of crime were on the rise in our local region, he did say that increased police helicopter presence presented a double-edged sword for him and fellow worry warts. Ploenges said, “On the one hand, it’s good that police are providing active surveillance of the area, but on the other hand you have wonder why they need to continually attend various Diamond Valley hotspots. When you actually think about it, it’s a bit of a chicken and egg scenario, really.”
