A brave local man has spoken out about the seemingly wide-spread practice of scrawling a coffee order onto the top of a takeaway cup lid, claiming it ruins the overall experience of his daily flat white. Gareth McInness contacted The Watsonia Bugle this morning to air his grievance, saying that while the method has long raised his ire, this morning was the proverbial straw that broke the caffeine-dependant camel’s back.
In a wide-ranging interview, McInness openly pondered why baristas would spend so much time crafting the perfect hot drink, only to ruin the aromatic experience with the overpowering scent of black permanent marker. He also pointed out that the awkward placement of the marking often resulted in parts of the text rubbing off on his nose. He said, “Not only do I now have this unsightly black smudge on the end of me snout, but I can’t get the scent of Sharpie out of my nose. I don’t want to sound too dramatic, but it’s ruined my day. Why do so many baristas insist on doing this? It has to stop.”
