A proudly Victorian brewer has brutally snubbed the suburb of Watsonia, neglecting to mention our wonderful suburb on their “Best of Victoria” box. Despite our reputation as the undisputed jewel of the north, Furphy have failed to reference us on their “celebrating the best of Victoria” box design, instead giving shout outs to such inferior locations as Shepparton, Cobram, Eurobin, Horsham and Swan Hill.

And it seems local Furphy drinkers are not happy about the omission, contacting The Watsonia Bugle this week to voice their eternal displeasure. One such disgruntled local beer drinker, Johnny Benson, said, “This is an absolute bloody joke, I’m telling ya! Watsy is the jewel of the north, and how we didn’t get a mention on that box design is beyond me. I mean, Eurobin is on there. They’ve just done that because it’s a funny name. Ever been to Eurobin? You might’ve , but you’d never remember it because there’s nothing there. What a farce.”

Benson also suggested that a minor conspiracy was at play here, intimating that Furphy has applied a “country town bias” to their branding. He said, “It’s actually pretty obvious when you think about it. You can’t blame them for trying to appeal to the stereotypical knockabout country bloke, but I can guarantee there’s just as many knockabout Aussie blokes right here in Watsy. It’s like, c’mon guys, it’s 2019. Suburban lads can be salt of the earth too. When there’s delays on the Hursty Line I reckon Bendigo is closer to the CBD by train, so why exclude Watsonia from this ramshackle list of so-called Victorian icons?”
