A local coffee enthusiast has suggested an alternative to settle this week’s rolling debate over the new $5 note design. Craig Hamilton has suggested that the beloved giant coffee cup that once danced along the side of the Greensborough Highway would be the perfect addition to the currency, and has the added bonus of being roughly the amount of money required for a takeaway hot beverage.

Speaking to The Watsonia Bugle, Hamilton said, “Regardless of your own world view, and your personal political bias, I think most people can agree on the fact that the dancing coffee cup was awesome. I’ve never met someone who wasn’t a fan. You could be right wing, left wing, or centre wing, but you all smiled when you drove past that goofy cup having a little dance on the side of the road. Let’s make it happen.”

However, despite Hamilton’s impassioned plea, the concept seems unlikely due to its localised flavour. According to one level-headed local, “Only the highly sophisticated residents of the Diamond Valley know about that coffee cup, the rest of Australia would have no bloody idea.”
