Like any older sibling not wanting to be outdone by their younger sibling, Watsonia has muscled in on Watsonia North’s recent crowning as the coolest and most bestest suburb in all of Melbourne. While the northerners continue to celebrate their new title, Watsonia proper was yesterday named in the top 5 hottest Melbourne suburbs according to an annual report released by leading real estate agent John McGrath.
While the top 5 placing raised the obvious question of just how many of these most bestest and most liveable lists are announced each year (refer to the recap below), that won’t stop Watsonians from walking a little taller for the next few days. Because, you know, everyone loves a list – especially time-starved news services that often run out of article ideas. Cough, cough.
According to the report, Watsonia is “an often forgotten pocket of Melbourne’s north east due to its quiet and unassuming 1970s suburban streetscapes”. The report then spruiks the benefits of North East Link and its expected reduced travel times to the city, while conveniently skimming over the possibility that Watsonia will become a veritable worksite for close to a decade while the link is built.
The result caps a busy award season for Watsonia and Watsonia North, with a full list of the various titles and placings included below:
Watsonia is the best Melbourne suburb within a first-home buyer’s budget.
Watsonia North is the least walkable suburb in Melbourne.
Watsonia scores 4.5 stars out of 5 for Melbourne’s healthiest suburb.
Is Watsonia the suburb that developers forgot?
Watsonia is one of three Melbourne suburbs are “set to transform in the next few years”.
